The Archive Of Our Own is now in Open Beta! Which means that it's now possible to create accounts and start uploading (and commenting on other people's) stories. (Have I mentioned today that I love the fact that they're implementing threaded commenting? That was something I've always missed on all other fanfic archives on the net.) Granted, you need an invite cde, but it's very easy to get one: Just enter your e-mail address over here to request one. There's a queue but you should still be able to get one pretty fast: I requested one yesterday afternoon and woke up today to find one in my inbox.

(For those of you who are hearing about the AO3 for the first time right now, and I suppose that's the majority of you even though posts/news about the Archive are all over my reading list this weekend, here's more info about this we-own-our-own-servers fanfiction archive and the plans for future features.)

I'm Lymsleia over there, if anyone wants to look me up, though I should also be findable if you search for Schattenstern since it's a "pseudonym" the Archive recognises as connected to me. I've been busy today uploading some of my fics there (a total of fifteen, two of which are drabble collections of 6 and 13 drabbles each while one is a standalone drabble) and being a bit sad that I have not written any fanfiction in the last twelve months. How could that happen?

But in any case, I'm glad the Archive is there and finally open to "the public." It might even help me to find my fanfic writing motivation again. I mean, yeah of course it's most important to write for yourself, but when I had a story idea, I've found myself asking myself "Would anyone who reads my journal know the fandom and read this?" and the answer to that would be, in nine cases out of ten "Uh, no?" which is kind of... discouraging. Then I can just as well tell the story in my head and not bother with writing it down. (There are also no communities for most of my fandoms and while there are challenges, I've not been terribly challenge-happy this year either.) But now there's the Archive - a fanfiction archive where I actually feel welcomed and that I want to post to! - and potential readers and... are we sure the coders haven't found a way to sneak a newly discovered motivation tag into their code? ;)

Am also very tempted to help the AO3 team with tag wrangling (organising tags, basically. lian and the FAQ explained it better) but also already threw my hands up in the air when I created new tags for characters that had not previously been written in the Archive that have no last names and a common first name or something like that. I think "Name (Name of Fandom)" is the way to go in that case though. Hmmmm... Maybe I should wait a few days and see which of my gaming fandoms need wranglers then? The current list seems not quite up to date because FFXII has a wrangler as far as I know but is still on the list?

... or maybe I should actually go and write something. XD

Ich heiße Lina, bin 19 Jahre alt und lebe&studiere in den Niederlanden.
Mein Leben gefällt mir sehr gut und mein Journal wird aus Einträgen über:
Uni, meine verrückten Mitbewohner, Familie und Freunde, leider auch Heimweh, Musik, Bücher und natürlich Liebe bestehen. Fotos sollen jetzt auch verstärkt hinzukommen :)

Eine charakterliche Beschreibung ist sehr schwierig. Ich bin sehr organisiert (das ist mal gut, mal schlecht), meistens fröhlich und optimistisch und dankbar für alles Gute in meinem Leben.
Mein letztes Konzert war Mew, meine Lieblingsband ist Led Zeppelin. Ich schaue gerne Dexter und lese gerade Wer die Nachtigall stört.
Mein Lieblingsfilm ist Lars und die Frauen und ich gehe gerne mit Freunden weg.

Okay, hier kommt der Tiefpunkt. Naja fast. Eigentlich wäre diese Woche der Herr Paul van Dyk mit dem glorreichen "Time of our lives" mit dem Ohrwurm an der Reihe, immerhin hängt der Song seit letztem Freitag in meinem Gehörknochen fest und will ums verrecken nicht mehr verschwinden (danke, Lukas *tret*) - aber die Blöße geb ich mir nicht. Kein PvD hier. Uargh.
Dann wäre da noch "Man of all seasons" von Concord Dawn, der auch seit einer Woche beständig durch meinen Kopf geistert, aber das wäre ja schon wieder Drum and Bass und weil ich übermüdet bin und sowieso ein bisschen wahnsinnig und weil ich jetzt schon weiß, dass ich diesen Song tothören werde (weil BAUM!), gibts diese Woche leicht verspätet mal ein bisschen äh (ich glaub es war) Melodic Trance auf die Ohren. Und das von MIR, die zwei Satyriconposter im (rosa) Schlafzimmer hängen hat. Oje...

Notes augmented

We've enhanced and de-bugged Notes. If you haven't tried it yet, now's the time! You can create a private note when you ban multiple users. You can also delete multiple notes at once. Lastly, paid users have the option to add a note (visible only to you) whenever you add or remove a friend (guaranteed to avoid embarrassing social mishaps). If you don't currently have a paid account, you can upgrade now! It only takes a few minutes and costs less than a bad shopping mall haircut (plus, it's way more fashionable)!

Product tweaks and bug kill

1. In another effort to zap spam, comments containing links from domains LiveJournal deems untrustworthy are now automatically screened
2. The issue causing random comments to vanish has been fixed!
3. If you visit a LiveJournal page and get prompted to log in, you'll be returned to the same page after you sign in (Thanks, Dreamwidth)!
4. If you don't edit the timestamp for an entry at all, the entry timestamp will indicate the time the entry was posted instead of the time the Update Journal page was loaded
5. Comments with paddings/backgrounds render correctly within the comment box (and will no longer wrap outside the box and break frames/margins)

New FCK fixes rich text editor!

1. We've updated our RTE (Rich Text Editor) to FCKeditor version 2.6.5
2. When switching from the RTE to HTML editor, links for syndicated feeds are no longer broken
3. RTE now functions properly in Safari 4.0
4. An extra line/space will not be auto-inserted whenever you switch from RTE to HTML editor
5. The insert image link now works correctly in all browsers

Curtains

ich weiß, wir hatten noch nicht viel miteinander zu tun. Ich habe dich in meinem Leben wirklich noch nicht sehr oft belästigt. Ich war noch nie im Krankenhaus oder musste operiert werden oder war länger als 3 Tage krank. Im Großen und Ganzen haben wir bislang friedlich nebeneinander her gelebt.

Es tut mir auch furchtbar Leid, dass ich dich nun belästigen muss, aber auf meiner Hand... IST etwas. Es ist rot, juckt, schuppt, blutet, bereitet mir SCHMERZEN und stört mich. Ursprünglich wollte ich es einfach so in den Griff bekommen, aber da keine Creme der Welt es davon abhalten kann, meine Hand zu zersetzen sich auszubreiten, muss nun doch der Fachmann ran. Und damit meine ich lediglich „Ein Facharzt in meiner Nähe möchte da bitte einen Blick drauf werfen, es identifizieren und anschließend eliminieren.“

Was ich NICHT möchte, ist mir von einer netten Dame am Telefon sagen zu lassen, dass sie im Moment keine neuen Patienten mehr nehmen und dass ich, wenn ich möchte, einen Termin IM MÄRZ haben kann. Und selbst den wahrscheinlich nur, weil der Patient, der da eigentlich kommen sollte, bis dahin entweder gesund oder tot ist. Ernsthaft, was soll der Mist? Bis dahin hat das unbekannte Wesen was auch immer mich nun bevölkert heimsucht stört meine Hände in ihre Einzelteile aufgelöst. ICH HABE JETZT SCHMERZEN UND NICHT IM MÄRZ, IHR FLACHPFEIFEN!

Aber vielleicht hätte ich auch einfach nur im Februar schon wissen müssen, dass ich im November ein Problem haben werde.

Ich gehe den seelischen Schmerz nun mit Schokopudding betäuben und bete, dass sich irgendwo in erreichbarer Nähe doch noch ein Arzt finden lässt, der meine Hände wieder in etwas verwandelt, das aussieht, als würde es zu meinem Körper gehören.

Естественно, интересовали экзаминатора не нервное управление сердца, и даже не пресловутые патологии эмбрионального развития (ductus botalli persistens, for. ovale interatreale...) а строение рога конского копыта. Лол.

EDIT@08:16 UTC/GMT. Wow. That was ugly. I expected it to go for 30 minutes and have maybe 1 minute of broken connectivity. Instead it lasted over 4 hours and we had 10 minutes of downtime directly related to the load balancer upgrades and then another 5-10 minutes of downtime when our primary Pingback database server crashed and the secondary couldn't take over; which could have been indirectly caused by the network upgrade missing a self-VIP.

Anyways, we're up, we're working, the load balancers are barely breaking a sweat right now and I need some food and a shot of whiskey. I don't even *like* whiskey!!

On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice.

Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials.

We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait!

Hallo, mein Name ist Brina. Ich bin 21 Jahre alt und wohne seit Juni diesen Jahres mit meinem Freund zusammen in der Nähe von Aachen. (Was aber leider irgendwie viele Probleme mit sich bringt.) Ich mache derzeit ein Fernstudium beim ILS, wo ich mein Abi mache. Jedenfalls dachte ich mir, dass ich einfach mal wieder ein Gesuch starte - ihr wisst schon - zu viel Zeit & zu wenig Lese- & Kommentierstoff.
Ich liebe es zu fotografieren, komme aber in letzer Zeit viel zu selten dazu. Ohne Musik könnte ich nicht leben - Ich höre eigentlich immer und überall wo es nur geht Musik. Dabei am liebsten Rock, 80ies, Raggae und alles was mir sonst noch so gefällt. Ich liebe einfach die Musik, nicht den Interpreten oder das Genre. Ansonsten bin ich zur Zeit total vernarrt in Prison Break und gucke täglich mindestens 2 Folgen was natürlich bedeutet, dass ich bald alles durch hab - neeeein :(. Ansonsten beschäftige ich mich gern mit guten Büchern, meinen Haaren (färben, schneiden usw.), koche & backe oder hänge einfach nur faul rum (das kann ich übrigens verdammt gut :D).
Vermutlich sollte man mich einfach kennenlernen, weil Selbstbeschreibungen sowieso irgendwie für'n Arsch sind und überhaupt.


In meinem Journal gibts eigentlich das Übliche zu lesen, was hier jeder schreibt: Gedanken, Gefühle, Alltag, Fotos, etc. Besondere Ansprüche hab ich nicht, allerdings können Leute die nach einer Woche kicken weil es "nicht passt" irgendwie gleich wegbleiben weil ich denke sowas rauszufinden braucht ein wenig Zeit.
